Getting Specialized

 

When I opened my own shop short hair was the focus because I believed the hair industry was becoming specialized, and because I wanted to do what I liked and did not what to do work I did not enjoy.

 

In my work with the Andis Company I developed new tools and techniques for short hair cutting.  I have become the world’s number one authority in short hair cutting and training hair cutters to master short hair cutting skills.

 

The proof that I had really mastered hair cutting and the tips, tricks and techniques of the tools of the trade and short hair cuts came when I earned three Guinness World Hair Cutting records.  I captured these records for the first time in 1998 and later reclaimed them all in 2008.

 

 

The Beginning

 

I have always been all about short hair.  I wear my hair short.  I cut my wife’s hair short.  My kids have short hair.

 

When I got to cosmetology school I was drawn to cutting hair short.  I mastered clipper cutting, razor cutting and traditional shear cutting with a focus on short styles.

 

In my first salon job I was apprenticed to a stylist who was a master with short hair.  The short hair bug had bit me so hard that I went back to school to get a barber license, too.

 

When I worked for and managed chain salons we focused on short hair for all its business benefits, clients come back faster, chairs turn faster and short haired clients send more referrals.

 

Along the way I learned a lot about short hair, short hair clients and short hair passion.
